Bintu is a map of everywhere you've been, on the web at bintu.app and on iPhone. It keeps what it needs to draw your map and share it with the friends you choose, and nothing else. There are no ads, no tracking, and nothing is sold.

What Bintu keeps

  • Your email address, to send your sign-in codes.
  • Your profile: your name, your Traveler ID, your home country, and, if you add one, your profile photo. Also the colors and travel tag you pick.
  • Your trips: the countries, states and cities you log, the month and year, any note you write, and who you traveled with.
  • Your connections: your friends and travel buddies, anyone you've blocked, and any reports you've made.
  • Feedback you send from Settings on the website.
  • A notification token for your iPhone, if you allow notifications, so Bintu can tell you about friend requests and shared trips.

Your location

The iPhone app can use your location to show where you are on the globe and to welcome you when you arrive in a new country. Your location stays on your phone: it's never sent to Bintu or anyone else. You can turn it off any time in the iPhone's Settings. The camera is only used to take your profile photo.

Who sees what

  • Friends you've accepted see your name, photo, Traveler ID, home country and your map: the places you've been and when. Your notes stay private, and so do the names of the people you traveled with.
  • Travel buddies see the trips you share with them on their own map.
  • Anyone with your Traveler ID can look you up to send a friend request, and sees your name and photo when they do.
  • No one else. There are no public profiles, and Bintu never sells or shares your information for advertising.

Keeping it friendly

Names are checked against a list of offensive words. You can report a traveler's name or photo, or block them, from your friends list in the iPhone app. Profiles that get reported are hidden from others until we've looked at them.

Services Bintu uses

Bintu uses a few trusted providers to run: hosting and storage, email for sign-in codes, and Apple's notification service. They only handle your information to do that job for Bintu, and keep it at least as safe as this policy does.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from Settings, on the web or in the app. Your profile, photo, trips, friends, blocks, reports, feedback and sign-in go with it. One exception: a trip you shared with a travel buddy stays on their map, since it's their trip too.

Your choices

You can see and change everything Bintu keeps from the app. To ask for a copy of your data, or for anything else about your privacy, email hello@bintu.app.

Children

Bintu isn't meant for children under 13. If you think a child has made an account, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
